Nicki Butler has delighted the palettes of Chester, Nova Scotia for over 20 years. First she opened the Captain's House back in the eighties. I can still remember running around on the lawn overlooking Chester's Back Harbour while my parents and their friends lounged on the terrace chatting away with Nicki after yet another perfect meal. Times changed through the nineties and Nicki decided to open up a new place a couple streets closer to the center of town on Pleasant Street near the Chester Play House.
Today Nicki's is THE place to go in Chester if you want to dine in style, enjoy impressive cuisine complemented by lovely wines, cocktails and specialty coffees.
Every Sunday diners line up to get a seat for Nicki's signature Sunday Roast.
The Yorkshire puddings pile high on the perfectly roasted veggies beside your choice cut of roasted lamb, chicken or beef... Smothered in mouth watering gravy. Yes, I bet you'd love to see a photo or even scratch the screen and smell the plate! My mouth waters as I write this description!
Nicki sources a lot of her produce from the local organic market in nearby Hubbards so the menu can change to reflect what's fresh that week. You'll often see her at the market on a Saturday morning chatting with the local farmers, butchers and bakers.
If you are visiting the south shore of Nova Scotia - consider an afternoon in Chester - you can watch the Bluenoses duke it out down at the Chester Yacht Club and then take a leisurely stroll up to Nicki's and enjoy a lovely meal and stay the weekend if you wish! Nicki's Suites are elegant and comfortable.
